KaneTrax is back from paternity leave with 9 new tunes for your holiday weekend – enjoy!

Kicking things off is a fresh take on some classic Big Wu from front-man Chris Castino along with Chicken Wire Empire. This bluegrass Minnesota Moon is finger-pickin’ good! Dan Horne certainly knows life on the road, playing in both Circles Around the Sun and the Grateful Shred, and his solo offering Ode to the Road is a catchy homage to that experience. Spaceface describes their music as “Retrofuturist Dream Rock” and I’m just going to leave it at that. Eels are out with their 14th album this year, and Grandfather Clock Strikes Twelve is a funky, groovy tunes that just begs for a relisten. Daniel Freedman is the drummer in David Byrne’s American Utopia which itself elicits a say-no-more-and-listen, but dig his tune that layers grungy, shreddy guitar on top of a tribal percussive backdrop and energetic vocals and tell me you don’t want to dance around a bonfire under a full moon on some remote tropical beach somewhere. Spoon has been putting out music for 20 years at this point, and their latest album is yet another in a long list of impressive indie-punk-rock tunes further cementing their signature sound as enjoyable in my brain. The Lazy Eyes is a psychedelic rock outfit from Australia, and I’ll just say they remind me quite a bit of another psychedelic rock outfit from Australia who’s been featured on KaneTrax once or twice…. Next up is Warpaint who is back with their first album in a few years. It’s a bit lower key, and Send Nudes is a super vibey, yet funky tune that doesn’t want to send any mixed messages. Closing out this month’s playlist is Arcade Fire, out with WE, their fifth album this spring. Their sound on the album resembles their earlier efforts with a bit more stripped down sound, yet Unconditional I (Lookout Kid) proves they are still quite capable of dropping an anthem.
