For your Monday listening pleasure, check out the latest edition of KaneTrax!
Listen to the entire playlist HERE or below:
First up is a psychedelic tune from The Green Child called Her Majesty II. I’ve listened to their entire album a couple of times and it definitely gets a bit out there, but if that’s your thing (it certainly is mine), you’d enjoy giving it a spin.
The next track is a fun, poppy number from Caroline Rose called Soul No. 5. It’s quite a bit different than the Valerie June tune featured here last year, but the message is certainly the same, and Caroline does indeed “got soul”.
The Outfield is the debut track from The Night Game and it’s quite good. Lots of vintage rock sounds to this one… I hear lots of Dire Straits influence… and I am excited to hear what else they have in store.
There hasn’t been a song on KaneTrax that makes me want to swing dance quite the way Hurricane Shakedown does. The Deslondes were a band I stumbled onto last year, and somehow this track slipped under my radar, so I’m making up for lost time!
Next up is a fun tune from the latest Wood Brothers album just out. If you know my taste, I do have a propensity to like happy, upbeat songs, and Happiness Jones certainly fits the bill, and not just by the title.
Moving from folk rock into bluegrass, is These Memories of You from Billy Strings, who is quickly gaining a following. He tours with a 5-piece who play very well together, and Billy has some serious chops on the guitar. Check out the tune, and see them live if you can!
Julian Lage is a monster guitarist, and has completely carved out a niche for himself as one of the pre-eminent young jazz musicians out there. His latest album is comprised entirely of instrumental tracks with a wide range of feelings. Wordsmith is one of the songs that grabbed me for it’s diversity and how well it encapsulates Lage’s style.
Kicking it over to a grittier swamp rock style is The Greyhounds, who have released No Other Woman in advance of their upcoming album. It’s great to see these guys still cranking out music after close to 20 years at it.
Closing it down this month is Exile Rag, an energetic tune from Kyle Craft‘s sophomore effort. The entire album boasts a glam-rock sound that’s a throwback to my ears, but has a genuine sound that keeps it fresh. This one was on repeat for a few days after I first heard the song, so surely you’ll enjoy giving it a spin.
Catch you back for more in March!
